Types of Eating Disorders

We specialize in eating disorder therapy, addressing a wide range of conditions with compassion and expertise.

Our treatment covers anorexia nervosa, a disorder characterized by restrictive eating and an intense fear of gaining weight, helping clients rebuild a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

We also provide comprehensive support for binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, ARFID, and other eating disorders, guiding individuals toward sustainable recovery and emotional well-being.

  • Anorexia Nervosa: A disorder characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image, leading to severe restriction of food intake and excessive weight loss.

  • Binge Eating Disorder: This condition involves recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food (often very quickly and to the point of discomfort); a feeling of a loss of control during the binge; and experiencing shame, distress, or guilt afterwards.

  • Bulimia Nervosa: A serious eating disorder marked by binging, followed by methods to avoid weight gain such as self-induced vomiting.

  • ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder): This disorder is characterized by a failure to meet nutritional and/or energy needs, leading to significant nutritional deficiencies, weight loss, or dependency on enteral feeding or dietary supplements.

Extensive Experience

Leah regularly treats clients with all types of eating disorders and disordered eating, regardless of specific symptoms presentation and severity, and utilizes a Health At Every Size (HAES) approach.

She has experience treating clients at all levels of acuity. If outpatient treatment is not appropriate, she will do everything in her power to assist each client, and their family, in finding appropriate resources for their needs.

Collaborative Care

Additionally, Leah actively collaborates with all providers necessary for the comprehensive care of each client. For clients suffering from eating disorders, Leah will regularly be in contact with their dietitian, physician, and psychiatrist if applicable.

If a client does not have a treatment team at the time of assessment, she is happy to assist in providing recommendations for trusted and competent referrals.

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

In addition to individual and family therapy, when appropriate, Leah can support clients with exposure and response prevention, as well as therapeutic meals (in collaboration with the client's dietitian) to provide real-time support, as needed.
